View Full Version : .avi (divx) - plays in QT Player, not in boxee?

Any idea why? Does boxee not use QT?

(I installed the http://perian.org/ stuff first)

These are divx encoded tv shows (from, say, eztv) that play fine in QT Player. In Boxee I get the busy circle thing for a second and then it just returns to boxee.

boxee does not use quicktime, nor does it require perian.

boxee natively supports more formats than perian and qt combined. it's video player is based on ffmpeg. (more here: http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=425&highlight=supported+formats)

it's odd that it doesn't play your file... can you post up some more info about the file? divx version, audio codec, bitrate, etc...

or, if you could just record say two minutes of commercials, and use something like dropbox (www.getdropbox.com) to share the file, that would be even better for testing!

I don't need to do that, I can point you to the exact files that don't work.

Just got download any of these episodes off eztv:

http://eztv.it/shows/725/time-warp/

"Time Warp S01E06 HDTV XviD-GNARLY" doesn't start

(actually, none of the files from eztv work, these are just nice and short)

They're playing off a network share if that matters.

Again, the exact same files in the same locations play without issue in QTPlayer on the Ma.c

I find it odd too.

Very strange. Boxee (based on xbmc) plays videofiles much faster and better than QuickTime + Perian + Flip4Mac. Try playing a .MKV file in quicktime over a network. I've been using Boxee for more than a month now and haven't encountered a single file that doesn't play correctly (or worse than Quicktime).
