This might sound strange but I am looking to somehow have a waterproof remote controller for boxee / media center. This is so I can have music / media in the shower. I have a small usb powered monitor that I could protect from water and mount. However I still need a way to control boxee, and I assume since the I don’t have a touch screen / waterproof LCD I would need some kind of remote. It has been hard to find any waterproof remotes.

Option 1) Aquatic AV IR remote. It is intended to control their boat DVD players: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Remote-DVD-Control-Center/dp/B000THTWC6 Is it possible to buy an infrared USB receiver (a generic one) that could detect the various buttons you are pressing and then you could map it to do certain functions? It seems that IR isn’t really secured or protected so figured a button press has some sort of signature but am not sure I am really new to all of this.

Option 2) RTI U1 waterproof remote. This seems to be very sophisticated and it is very expensive ($300). http://www.rticorp.com/products/U1.html On top of that you then need to buy all sorts of receivers etc for it that is bound to be expensive and complex. It seems it is a bit overkill for what I am looking for.

There is also this Dolphin remote that is made to control media as well as your hot tub. Maybe what I described in option 1 (using a USB IR receiver and mapping the signals somehow if possible) could be used on this as well http://www.smarthome.com/59700/Dolphin-Remote-and-RF-IR-Control-Center-Waterproof-Universal-Remote-Control/p.aspx

Not sure if anyone can help but at least this research might benefit others trying to do this, Also if anyone knows if an IR remote intended for proprietary device could be utilized with a generic IR receiver.
Thanks!

Hah, well not more then 20 minutes, but I had stereo in bathroom back in college days and it was always great. Its mainly for music, but I want to be able to change tracks if need. So I'd invest some into it, but probably not $300+ like that one system

I might just go for the remote in the bag option I suppose for now. My main priority is that it be functional (and not to expensive) as opposed to looking good.

fuzzgtp, hah no porn. It's 2010, I can accept not having a flying car, but can't we at least get a waterproof remote.
