If Boxee is not running I cannot figure out how to launch it using the Menu command like I do for Front Row. Once I have Boxee up and running I can use the apple remote fine (programmed to my Harmony)
Given I am using boxee on a MacMini attached to my TV this is crucial in order to avoid VNC'ing into the MacMini or using a wireless keyboard to start the app.
I recall there was a setting for this in the older version of Boxee? Where did it go

Hey Ramble, I don't believe the apple remote ever had those "powers." There's other programs (http://www.123macmini.com/news/story/501.html) that arn't free that *might* allow you to set up your system to launch Boxee....
Unfortunately, it's mostly in the hands of Apple to add that feature to it's OS... The boxee team can't do much, since, if the program is shut down, then, by definition, it can't activate itself unless it's through OS X.

An setting exists in both the Alpha and the Beta, Settings->System->Apple Remote->Always On. If this is selected it should start Boxee with the menu button. It did with the Alpha but is not working with the current beta.

What version of OSX are you using?
Although I wasn't able to find this exact problem on JIRA, many users were able to get their Apple remotes to function better after downloading a A-remote driver called candelair on Snow Leopard.

You inspired me to dig up my apple remote to give it a go, but, sure enough, the battery was dead. Anyluck with candelair?

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 so it does not appear to be a Snow Leopard Bug...
