why separate registration for boxee and forum?

just started using boxee today.

Why does forums require separate registration? why can't the same registration info be used for both the forums and the main site?

Most likely because it would require a bunch of hacking of the vBulletin user database, and the fact that vBulletin is not OSS--which annoys me that Boxee uses it--would make integration an even bigger PIA.

Plus, only a small subset of Boxee users are active Forum users.

I can understand that the two userbase system has to be different, but why not take the info at time of registration and update both the databases? Just a suggestion.

Well, it's all about priorities and resources. Boxee the application is the top priority. Wasting resources hacking vBulletin isn't.

I understand your point, but it's just so low on the list of larger considerations.
