I was excited to first hear about the atvusb creator, and then Boxee. I got the former working fairly easily. The latter, not so much. First, boxee doesn't see my shares from my iMac (even after learning that it's gotta use smb). Now Boxee crashes at login. I can't get back in to boxee.
I updated the launcher, as well as Boxee. No dice. I've lost times of how many times I had to reboot.
Anybody know when the next version comes out?
Thanks.

hi
please try to remove your profile and restart boxee once again..
you will need to ssh into Apple TV. from Linux and Mac OSX, use the ssh command line via the terminal.
to know which ip address you need to ssh to, get the information using Apple TV Settings > General > Network, or Boxee Settings > General
to connect to the Apple TV
Code:
ssh frontrow@{ip address}
the password is frontrow. using Windows putty, enter the ip address and when asked for user name enter frontrow, password frontrow.
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/{boxee user name}
after we have the boxee up and running then we will work the share option out..

First of all, thanks for the quick response. Second, this is a very promising app, and you guys seem to be on the way with it.
Unfortunately, I've followed your directions, and the problem remains. I cd'd to the directory after following your directions, and doublechecked that the profile is gone. However, when I launch boxee, it still sees my login somehow, and when I select it, it still crashes. The one difference now, is that the menu button will at least back me out.
Also, the third time I tried, I got error status 11

also, if you could, please read this:

every time a crash is reported, an angel gets a boxee invite--and, to a lesser extent: it's wings. :D

I sent in the crash report as requested. I tried logging in to boxee later today, and got in. so deleting the profile helped (but the profile was still in boxee. weird) but I'm still faced with no access to my media on the iMac. When I select the iMac, it seems to search for a while, then comes up with "No files found at source. I have smb enabled, and there are shared folders with movies in them (video ts folders, as well as .m4v, "appletv formatted" movies).

can you describe your network setup, and sharing settings?
also, are you using smb on your shares?

The appletv is connecting to my network via wireless using DHCP. I have a D-Link wireless access point(g) attached to a Netgear router providing the DHCP. Internet is via the craptacular Hughes Satellite. The 1 GHZ iMac G4 is running Leopard 10.5.5 and has a wired connection to the Netgear router. The iMac serves all the media to the appletv, and has functioned perfectly otherwise. I convert my DVD's to .m4v using Handbrake, and throw them in iTunes. No problem there. Music and photos work great too. My main reason for using boxee is to be able to use the video ts, and not spend hours converting.
When I try to see my network shares, I only see 2 machines on my network: the iMac and a Windows 2000 server. It appears that the 2000 server would work, as I see my shares on it. Sadly, it's a work machine, and not mine to use in this instance. I have a Panther machine with windows sharing enabled that doesn't show up at all. When I go to browse the iMac, it comes up with no shares available. I have made sure that I clicked the "advanced" button, and smb has been enabled for each. However, the individual accounts are unchecked in this window. Another thread said it was best to leave them unchecked. I've tried checking them, that didn't wok either.

could you try removing all your shares, all the setting, restarting everything, and then adding the shares back?
i swear it's not busy work... this has fixed it for people. :)

I was successful getting a G5 iMac to share to boxee. I'm going to reinstall the Os on the G4 iMac. I'll let you know if that helps.
Also, I'm going to close this account, and open another. My name says "Spam me".

This was a different machine. Makes me think there is a problem with the G4. I'm going to do an Archive Install on that machine. The G5 shared with no problem, I tried watching part of a DVD rip and it played for a while but then I got the Status 11 error. I'm wondering if a wired ethernet connection would help things.
