"The program can not start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing"
looks like known issue - http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-2841
I will uninstall boxee and reinstall to see if this goes away ..
setup
beta 10063
win 7 ultimate
brand new install (no prior boxee install)

Try running the DirectX installer to update DX before running the Boxee installer, it sould "fill in" any missing files... though why a Win 7 machine with DX 10 would be missing a support library from DX 9 makes no sense to me

uninstall/install did not help.
Towards the end of the install, it spawns a new window and that window goes away. This happens very fast, less than a second. So I couldn't see what that window said or was trying to do. (may be that was failed dxwebsetup ?)
cogadh, Since Win7 has DX10, it probably doesnt need and doesnt have DX9 librariries and the last comment on this issue in Jira is
"some Win7 systems does not start the dxwebsetup installer and does not install the directx dll's.
the reason is that the dx installer recognize a newer version of directx installed on the system. "
so I am not sure that I am going to be able to install this library. But I will try to find dxwebsetup and install ...

downloaded dxwebsetup and tried to install
dxwebsetup install failed
Looking in the DXerror.log and DirectX.log found this in the log file
"
12/31/09 10:15:25: DXWSetup: A newer version of DirectX have been installed already."
So whats the next step for me?
Should I add my comments to Jira, Can I?

while dxwebsetup (http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en)(web install) would not update my dx
directx-redist (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=04ac064b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553) (full install) did!
So now I am running boxee!
developers, note that starting web installer as part of boxee install may not work for windows 7 ultimate ..

The original beta did not auto install DX upgrade. But ever since the first private beta release the DX update was built into Beta and performs this update just when Boxee finishes installing.
Odd how that occurred on 10063 beta.
