Hi,

I've now seen this issue happen twice, both on the most recent Mac Beta available. About 40 mins in to a 1080p movie streamed over the network, the movie stops playing and gives the message "SMB: Server Stopped Responding". One was a 7.04GB .mkv file and the other was a 4.29GB .m2ts file. Both stopped a little over 40 mins in to it with the same message. This only happens seems to happen with 1080p files. I've checked other movies and so far, the same problem doesn't seem to happen.

So I'm assuming no one else is having this problem? It's definitely not the files as I'm able to play them all the way through (streaming, as well) using VLC. Any thoughts?

I'm guessing no one else has been having this problem. Well, it just happened to me again at the same point in a 1080p file 4.7GB in size being streamed over a network. Here is the log file info from the time it happened. I know some of it is irrelevant, but I decided to just copy and paste the whole thing anyway. I have yet to be able to watch more than 41 minutes of a 1080p movie streamed over the network. I'm going to try and copy a file to the machine and stream it locally to see if I have the same problem.

So, this problem only appears to happen when streaming large files over a network. When streaming the file locally from the hard drive, everything is ok. I'll test it off a USB-attached drive and update this thread (even though, it doesn't seem as if anyone else is having this issue).

Alright. It's confirmed: this problem only happens when streaming a large file over the network. When that same file is played from the hard drive containing boxee or a USB-attached device, everything works perfectly.

I would go ahead and add this to Jira, but I'd appreciate it if someone else could duplicate this first before I go and clutter things for the Boxee devs.

with osx and the most recent beta build. 40 minutes in or so is about right it seems...

I have the same problem. I know this thread is old, but did you ever come up with a resolution or work around? I have the same problem on the latest boxee on my Mac Mini streaming a large file.

I've also just discovered this error when playing files over a share, however they're not necessarily large files, some less than 100MB.

Anyone heard any updates to this?

When your server can be stopped to respond you it must be failed in some protocols which you use with this it is necessary files with having 100 Mb for streaming the server to stopped the responding .

I'm running a Mac Mini with the latest build and seem to be having a related problem.

I use my Boxee'd mac mini to listen to music from a file server that contains all my music. Every ten minutes or so while listening to music, the sound will simply stop. It lags for ~10 seconds, and then continues on where it lagged. This has been going on for months (i wish I could remember the exact build that it first showed up in but I can't).

I opened up the log files and every time the music lags i see an error of:

Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding

This is a mightily annoying error! Any advice on fixing this issue?

Thanks..

I may have a possible solution for this in my case it was the NAS device firmware. Before when watching a movie during the first 5 minutes of watching the movie I would get the SMB error. After searching the net I found that particular NAS device "WD SharedSpace 4TB" had enabled signing. Customers were complaining about the transfer speed slowing down so they released a firmware patch to disable this. After doing this on my device I have watch the same movie I was having issues with and 40 minutes into the film it is still going without any errors.SO far this seems to have fix my issue and it may be something worth exploring. Below is the microsoft link describing the SMB signing..

I just disabled "server signing" on my Samba server. I am able to get through entire episodes of TV shows now without having any drops in video on my Boxee Apple TV.
