Howdy,
I installed the Beta on (Ubuntu) Karmic last night, and first up, I've got to say good work!!!!

Does the Beta now work better with pulseaudio? I've noticed that removing pulse and adding ALSA support to Karmic has become much harder. I had removed pulse, and added ALSA for the Boxee alpha, but have now added pulse back in after I couldn't get ALSA and Ubuntu generally working nicely with the coax/digital out Creative Live 5.1 card.
If the beta has been designed to work with pulse, I'll do some further testing before I go logging a bug (I've currently got a problem with audio playback after an undetermined period of time into watching a video).

Secondly, should one remove the alpha entirely first, and then install the beta? It seems to be suggested reasonably often from what I've read. Maybe that will fix the issues I'm having with audio/video playback! :)

Thanks!

For configuring digital audio, please see my guide here: http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=9617.

FYI: it is not (and actually was not) necessary to remove PulseAudio.

Also, see this thread for information on removing the alpha before installing the beta: http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=13422

I actually have audio working via Pulse over coax at the moment (it seems to get a bit choppy on occasion, maybe due to poor drivers, I'm not sure). My question more was, if Boxee is now more tightly linked with Pulse instead of ALSA. It's more just a question out of curiosity more than anything. That, and I can't get digital out working over ALSA.

Thanks for writing up the guide though! It seems like it has helped quite a few people. It actually broke audio playback for me, but I guess one shouldn't touch something if it ain't broke!

Yikes! Sorry about that!
