View Full Version : Curious about how Boxee plays back Hulu (and other flash web sites)

Hey,

Just out of a general curiosity, I'm wondering how boxee manages to play hulu and other site's flash content.
Is it simply browsing to the website, finding the embedded flv file, downloading it, and then playing it using the installed flash plugin? Or does it use some open source codec? Does it extract the media file from the flash container first? Performance seems better than actually playing back flash video in a browser.

Thanks for any info you can share :)

Boxee has a built in Mozilla browser that it uses to basically "go to" and load flash content like hulu. Boxee loads the page, finds any flash content on said page, and then full-screens it. Technically then Boxee acts like any other browser and is able to skirt the issue of scraping content.
