Hey guys.

I thought Boxee upgrade their movie recognition with IMDB? Does the below still apply? The way I have my Movie library set up is; Name of movie without the extension, however I have started to include the year along with the name of the movie... ex; Snatch (1999) - while most of the films show up in Boxee, I still have a good 9-12 movies that do not show up... :( some are Russian, French, Chinese, not sure if it has to do with the Cyrillic typography or Mandarin that Boxee isn't reading?

naming movies

boxee currently supports one naming convention for movies:
Title.extension

optionally, you can add additional parameters for grater accuracy:
Title.(Year).part.extension

Title.extension the simplist, and is recommended for most movies.
Examples
Die.Hard.avi
Toy.Story.2.avi

Title.(YEAR).extension is helpful in the case of reamakes.
Examples
The.Day.the.Earth.Stood.Still.(1951).avi
The.Day.the.Earth.Stood.Still.(2008).avi

Title.part.extension for multi-part movie both part# and cd# are supported
Examples
Seven.Pounds.cd1.avi
Seven.Pounds.cd2.avi
The.Simpsons.Movie.part1.avi
The.Simpsons.Movie.part2.avi

Title.(Year).part.extension all parameters can be used in conjunction
Examples
The.Stepford.Wives.(2004).part1.avi
The.Stepford.Wives.(2004).part2.avi
The.Stepford.Wives.(1975).cd1.avi
The.Stepford.Wives.(1975).cd2.avi

A good rule of thumb: If IMDB does it, do it too.

Year?

IMDB does it! So should you...

Is The Machinist in IMDB "El maquinista (2004)"? Yes, then so should you...

As far as I know, Boxee has made some upgrades to it's scrapping technology since Alpha, but the same rules apply.

There is a sticky to submit uncrawled or misnamed/thumbed movie/TV shows. Hit it with your suggestions.

Also, Boxee licensed the IMDB database and is maintained on the boxee servers. So, the data is only as good as IMDB supplies. So, per the first paragraph, submit your crawl issuse so they can be amended in the Boxee database.

As far as i know Boxee only uses the english imdb database.

It doesn't find "Das Beste kommt zum Schluss", the german title for "The Bucket List", but he finds german movies like "Doppelpack".

When your Russian, French, Chinese, etc. Movies are localised titles of American movies, i think that the method of the scraper is the reason.

I honestly don't know which, if not all, "version" of the database were licensed by Boxee.

It could be just the US version, as those users are what Boxee is currently marketing too. If so, that could change in the future. But I know Boxee is primarily, for now at least, geared to the US market place in all aspects. Once things are bugged out and rolling along, more focus may come to other international regions.

That being said, you can submit the movies and links to the same Sticky and see what Marcel says about them. ;)

So because it is licensed and hosted on Boxee servers, is this why I have a few movies that won't show up and also a few others that pull really crappy cover art? For example, I have Spider-Man 3 that will just NOT show up at all in my movie list. Also, A few of my Harry Potters don't show very good cover art. They show the DVD Case with like half a DVD sticking out the side. Anyone else encountered this?

Thanks!

I have the same issue,

I have 520 movies right now and boxee only sees 465 of them, they are all named exactly as they would be on IMDB

example G.I..Joe.The.Rise.of.Cobra.(2009)

thats the format for all movies but some dont show up, i didnt realize there was a crawl function we could submit ill try it out.

Thanks
