View Full Version : [Crash] Segmentation fault

I'm on Linux (Ubuntu Karmic) and I decided to test Boxee beta.
I deleted the .boxee directory. However, after adding a local files folder I suffer from random Segmentation fault crashes. The stdout doesn't give any error message - I tested running boxee from the shell, looking at the info in the stdout and then play around in Boxee.
I attach the logfile.

Ubuntu, as any major Linux distribution, works fine. Boxee beta doesn't seem to be working well, though.
Any helpful information is appreciated.

I was getting a crash as well when I first installed the Beta. I had the Alpha running great on this box with Jaunty. When I got my Beta invite I upgraded to Karmic then installed the Beta and it would crash everytime I would login. I did a fresh install of Xubuntu and then installed the Beta and now it works fine.
It's probably not at all convenient for everybody, but it was easy enough for me considering Boxee is the only thing I use this box for and it seems to have fixed whatever was causing the crashing.

I added a bug in JIRA: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-3841
Merry Christmas.

Same issue here. Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic. I watched a two hour movie with it, then played around with the menus for about five minutes, then it crashed. Now it crashes about a minute or so after loading. Unusable at this point...

Was crashing for me just after loading.
I renamed /home/Videos to /home/avideos, just to avoid it from being scanned. Try it.
Now it does not crash, obviously is the scanner that is crashing, now i have to find if it is crashing from something i have inside the directory.
Ill keep you informed of my findings.

Hello, I managed it not to crash by deleting some files from my Videos directorio that might be causing the file scanner to crash.
I deleted a .rar file that contained .srt subtitles and a couple of .nfo plain text files. After that the scanner does not crash and therefore boxee keeps running.
So you know, if you have boxee crashing after loading, its the scanner choking on some not-so-normal files, have a look at that.

Right on the money. I actually just moved the contents of "Video" to "Multimedia", and that fixed the issue. If I want to play local content, I just use Boxee's file browser. I hope the issue gets fixed, though...
