I'm glad to see others are enjoying beta testing the new build. Unfortunately Boxee beta is barely usable for me.

There's a noticeable lag between pressing a key and the application actually responding. The lag seems to increase with use.

My system (which ran alpha quite):

Foxconn RS233
Intel Atom 230 (1.6) 533MHz
2gb ram
Intel GMA 950 onboard video

I had been running Jaunty, but couldn't get the Jaunty beta build to install so I upgraded to Karmic.

I'd read that there were some issues with Karmic and the intel video cards so I tried tweaking that, to no avail. Then I opened one of my local movies in vlc and it played just fine at full screen. In Boxee beta it creeps forward.

Same with flash movies. So this is definitely a Boxee issue.

I've tried taking my display resolution down to 640x480, but that's done nothing.

This is been mostly solved...

I feel silly, but I forgot to ensure that the Karmic upgrade added my username to the video group. Though in my defense I'd already done that two Ubuntu versions ago, so I figured this upgrade would have maintained my group memberships.

Anyway, the way I could tell is at a prompt I typed:

glxinfo | grep render

And "OpenGL renderer string:" was set to Software Rasterizer. I knew this was wrong because on another machine with the same intel 950 chipset it reads: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 945GME 20061017 x86/MMX/SSE2

A quick google search told me that not being part of the video group could cause this problem.

So I quickly did sudo usermod -a -G video USERNAME and Boxee sped up. I watched a DVD and noticed that it had short periods--under a second or two each time--where the playback was slightly choppy.

But otherwise, everything is looking good.
