View Full Version : Problems with fox and abc

Trying out the beta and have 2 problems.

I can't get fox to display in full screen. I can see the full screen button but cannot click it.

I can't get abc feeds to work. I just get a message that I need to upgrade plug-in.

I guess I'm not sure if fox and abc are supposed to work in the beta right now. Just figured I'd ask anyway.

Thanks

I just read another post where a user said that if go to the ABC, Fox sites and install their player....then reopen boxee....they will play fine.

Untested, but sorta makes sense. Try it and report back.

That "fix" worked for me as well, far as I can tell only ABC and Fox use that player software.

Again, open up ABC and Fox in a seperate browser window (I used IE), agree to install the updated player, then close it once installed and restart Boxee.

The videos are still not playing in fullscreen for me. They play but in the browser-like.

Try restarting Boxee, or restarting your PC.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with Linux and from the looks of it the Move Plugin won't be ported to Linux any time soon... Wow... Everyone is all out to keep content from being seen... Oh well...

Do you have FF installed?

I'd like to avoid it if I can since I've made lots of tweaks to FF.

I've installed the players, and found that when watching a Fox program, and extra pop-up shows and kicks the player out of full screen. I haven't tried it with ABC yet.

With ABC, any ad after the first ad will constantly flicker. Also certain video sections like messages before ads or things like end credits give a blank screen. Ads on ABC and NBC are blow out of scale(too zoomed in). FOX and FX doesn't resize and ads flicker/flash for me but the video controls seem to work except coming out of a pause doesn't work. (on 9816 for Windows)

Something to note, the Move Networks player has at least 4 different versions floating around out there. I've downloaded one for each of ABC, Fox, CW, and Move Networks itself. Maybe there's a particular version that works better than the others for full screen?

Unisonband, can you tell me which version of the Move Networks player you have installed?

maybe by going to this address to get the latest player instead from each site,

might help...

Newb here. How do you install these players in boxee?

You don't need to install them in Boxee per se. Just install them on your computer and Boxee will use them.

I get a pure white screen if I try to stream from FOX or FX. Infact, I can't even get back to the main boxee screen. I end up rebooting.

I get the yellow loading blocks and a black screen when I try to stream any TV shows. If I try Hulu, I get an error saying I need to upgrade Flash, but I have the latest Flash version. I get the same loading blocks and black screen if I try to play the Boxee introduction video from the Home screen.

I'm running Windows 7 32bit.

I don't get it. Install what? Are you talking about just installing the plugins for my browser? And how do I tell Boxee to use them? I don't see a Fox or NBC app anywhere?

Sorry for these questions, but I'm totally new with Boxee.

I outlined the fix in this post here. Requires FireFox and the Move Networks plugin be installed on the PC. Boxee then makes the plug-in "connection" automatically as it has FireFox installed in it, but no plug-ins.

On my Windows 7 Revo, I could not view Fox, CBS and ABC shows because I did not have FFox installed at all.... until I did this fix: http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=77890&postcount=11

Yes, the ABC player is partially blacked out. I've reported these findings to the dev's.

This will not fix FX or WB players. They are currently not working correctly in Boxee Beta.....

As described by the Judge, I installed FF and Move Networks plugins to get Boxee to playback video from FOX ABC and other Move Networks based sites. However, even after these updates I had an issue with Fox not playing back in fullscreen. I'd get flicker and a window based playback.

Recently while doing a search flash caches video, to address my video stutter issue, I came across info. regarding flash cookies. Turns out these guys have a tendency of wasting space as well as being a spyware tool for collecting data from unsuspecting internet users.

That being the case, I decided to delete all of my flash cookies using a tool called better privacy (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623) to see if that would fix my video stutter issue. Alas, it didn't solve that problem, but it did solve my Fox full screen issue. Fox is now playing back in fullscreen! I'm guessing there's some sort of conflict with certain flash cookies

So, I'm learning that TheJudge's advice may not apply to OSX users. I've updated all my peripheral software (Flash, Move, etc), but still unable to play FOX et al.

I posted an error report here on JIRA:
http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-4153

I *know* it's going to drive the boxee-team nuts, because they've already closed a few similar bug-reports (I didn't stumble upon Marcel's post), but I think it's a legitimate problem. agentlame may disagree, since I believe I read posts where he says it's not a boxee problem, but a fox/abc/cbs player problem. But, I figure if TheJudge can get it to play on his system, then it should work for osx.

Any OSX users able to get ABC/FOX to play?

Running Leopard on a Mac Mini and I've been to get all networks working (including WB and FX) by installing the plugins in firefox.

Kind of backfired on me as my wife now insists on watching Gilmour Girls. :(

There odd quirks with different networks that I'll log tonight but the experience is just as good as Hulu if not better in some cases.

Congrats boxee team.

The OS will be linux based, so my guess would be no.

I get a black box covering half the screen playing ABC content, previous betas didn't have this. FOX and NBC content plays fine.
I have the same problem: bottom of the screen is black on ABC, so only the top half of the show is visible; the commercials play just fine. :p

I am running Boxee version 0.9.20.10261 on Windows 7.

I'm on OS X and I can't get anything from ABC to play inside Boxee. It just says I don't have the plugin. However, when I load up the same page in my other browsers (Safari, Chrome), it plays fine. How can I fix this?

Install Firefox, then install the plugin again. That's what I had to do on my Windows machine.

^ I should have specified, I have FireFox on this machine too and the ABC videos load in FireFox. Should I trash FireFox and then reinstall it?

ABC video plays for me okay with Windows version, but it never gets out of the lowest quality media stream.

If I watch in firefox, it almost immediately moves to an HD 2000kpbs stream... but in boxee it stay on the 212 kbps SD stream which obviously looks like crap.

What is it about the boxee software that does not allow the move plugin to work as it does in a reguar browser?

darcilicious

If I'm not mistaken, Boxee isn't using any HD streams from any source at the moment.

I thought it would work differently with the move plugin.. because the move plugin automatically chooses the higher resolution source if your internet speeds can support it. It doesn't require a manual click and reload of a new stream like it does on hulu and other sites.

Seems weird that this finctionality wouldn't work in the boxee browser but does in firefox. But 212 kbps streams are absolutely horrid quality. They don't look much better than some of the first realplayer streams available way back when.

Have you guys tried wiping out all of the flash cookies on your machine? This worked for me using Win7x64. I was having issues with full screen FOX. I'm thinking there are some flash cookies that some how interfere with Boxee.

Regarding HD.
As far as I can tell, I get the HD stream using Boxee on Fox, ABC, ect... I do pause to help it "catch up".

Looks like the movenetworks.com player has disappeared. I'm not finding anything other than old post referring to it. http://www.movenetworks.com doesn't give anyway to install and google only shows cached pages. :/

You know what I LOVE, having an issue and searching for the fix and finding threads that have no fix and end with someone with a problem.

In this particular case, I think the problem went away without user intervention.

It has since returned ;) (in a different form, if I understand correctly)
