Looks like Back button on MCE remote does not seem to work correctly in bringing up this Menu on the new boxee beta to get out of applications or general browsing of boxee gui. I am forced to use the Boxee ap on iphone to control boxee beta or a keyboard. What happend b/c i can test on one of my other boxee stations and it works fine.

PS: Fine job on boxee beta looks and feels great on my many HDTV's

I noticed this as well, though only in certain screens (e.g. settings when playing movie). I'm using a Logitech diNovo myself. But using 'Escape' i/o 'Back' button in these case works ...

I have run into this problems as well on two different Boxee setups using MCE remotes. I have been using the "clear" button on both as an alternative. While this is kind of a solution, my thumb is not amused.

I also attempted to use IR Server Suite to fix things with little success. I am happy to hear that it is not just me having problems!

thanks for the "clear" button tip - i had to break out my keyboard for this issue - but now at least back to my remote

i think if you check:
C:\Program Files\Boxee\system\keymaps\remote.xml

line 53 is <back>PreviousMenu</back>

but in the keyboard.xml

line 51 is <backspace>ParentDir</backspace>

wonder if its just a matter of switching the remote.xml to be ParentDir?

CONFIRMED: Clear works as back good find i thought i tried every button also.

Hahah I did the same thing!! i busted out the Dinovo on the Nightstand last night while messing with boxee to navigate although i got frustrated. I also used iPod Remote app and worked great but i wasnt too fast at transititioning and changing windows and video with it.

and XMCNugget the switcharo did not work just tried it

I noticed this theres a reference to joystick.harmony.xml is this possibly for Harmony remote support? I just logged into harmony website and do not see boxee listed

NEVERMIND!! boxee is now listed in MEDIACENTERS as a remote supported by Harmoney sweet!!! did i miss this on the unveiling? ill try setting up and report back i coulda sworn i looked all over for boxee support in alpha.

I have this problem too, also noticed it in latest XBMC 9.11: Beta2.
That is possibly the source of the problem...

I just looked at the Harmony menu...unless I'm missing something it doesn't look like any buttons are mapped...not terribly useful...

Besides the BACK and INFO buttons not working, no player controls are working, PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, FF, etc. I have a Philips MCE remote and all this buttons worked gr8 before. I don't think it's about the key mapping xml but about the reading of the commands. I can only use the arrow keys, CLEAR and OK. It's usable but pressing 3 buttons to pause isn't as fun as just presing pause.

That's interesting. I have a combo of intelliremote (on my windoze box) and a Harmony; the Boxee profile via intelliremote needed no mucking about with except possibly the "back" button (pressing "guide" does it but I don't think I mapped that myself explicitly ;) )

Yah we lost functionality in our mce remotes. Also in the Harmony software there is no mappings. not sure if they completed the requirements by logitech. either way its progress

Why havnt anyone from boxee confirmed any of this or a reason as to why it is not working. Is there a dedicated boxee remote comming out?

It was confirmed at the unveiling, the remote is RF. I saw pictures or mock ups somewhere(can't find them) it was pretty basic remote; directions, menu, power, OK and Back.

Hiya

I'm on the phone just now with Logitech support - I found this thread and have exactly the same problem!

The lady told me that the Boxee has been added to the DB but no commands have been learnt for it on the Logitech DB, hence the problem.

She's going through the entire set of commands and learning them on the phone with me now - I've asked if she can store these for everyone else to use who choose the Boxee in future, and she's been a bit vague as to whether it'll update for everyone else. Actually - update, she's just told me that MORE PEOPLE NEED TO PHONE THE SUPPORT to learn this device, and then it will become standard in the database. Sounds a bit odd ... so if you're stuck, please call them up!

All she's doing with me is copying commands from another device - I assume from the standard XBMC remote or something.

Sorry I don't have a simple solution but at least it's some solution.

The problem is with Boxee, not your remote in my opinion. I've gotten the back button to work by swapping out files with Boxee Beta and Boxee Alpha but the 'up' command wouldn't work when I was finally done. And by that time, I was sick of trying to get it to work. If someone really wanted to know the three files I swapped out, I could find out.

I have the Logitech Harmony One remote and all I had to do is map the 'clear' command to the 'previous' button on the remote (Or any button you want on the remote) and the Boxee back button works. The only problem with that is, when I use it in Windows Media Center, the 'previous' button doesn't work at all of course.

So, yes, I'd imagine if a lot of people called Logitech Tech Support, they could make a 'device' on the Logitech remote and all will be good. Or, it would be nice if you could make a custom device. I just got my remote for Chirstmas so I'm not sure if it has an option like that. I doubt it.

Boxee is a wonderful program! I love it even with the back button issue :)

You know you can make your remote behave just like a keyboard if you select Microsoft as the manufacturer and use MCE Keyboard as the model #.

For the back button issue in Boxee? I didn't know that but I don't think that will make the back button work in Boxee beta though. I suppose I could do that and use the 'MS Keyboard' device for Boxee. I'd rather just have it work with my current setup and not add yet another device to my controller. My controller is working fine in Media Center and in Boxee beta (except for the back button of course). This is obviously a problem with Boxee beta. Alpha is running fine with the remote.

None of this really matters. I can wait for the back button fix. No big deal. I went back to Boxee Alpha anyway because beta isn't scanning or showing the files on my network server.
