Hey guys.

I have a file that is .avi but has a separate subtitle file (.srt) and what I would like to do is delete the .srt file, however if I do so, then I lose the subtitles for the film. So I have been doing some research, and i know that MKV has a container file for subtitles, but I have no freaking clue how to go about this.

What is best;

Embed the .srt into .avi (staying with the same format)
Convert to .MKV (where the subtitle is contained within the format .mkv)

Basically my set up in Boxee is as follows;

Movies
-name of movie 1
-name of movie 2
-name of movie 3

I dont have folder set up, I dont like clicking multiple times to get to the movie, so thats' why I wan to get rid of the .srt file & embed into the movie.

Thanks

Just my personal preference, but I like my movies and subtitles separate. This way if I want I can turn them off. I dunno, I just feel like when you embed subtitles permanently into a movie it's like scarring the media.

True, but it is a foreign film, it's a Russian film and my Russian isn't 100% yet ;) So i'll opt in to permanent subtitling... so what do you think? I found this: http://www.geekology.co.za/blog/2009/02/embedding-subtitles-srt-into-video-files-avi-mpg-mp4-mkv-etc/

@TomyLo, where do you get your English subtitles for Russian movies? I have a hard time finding them.
