View Full Version : Beta issues with Netflix

I would have assumed that the Beta would have fixed all my problems with Netlix and the Alpha, but indeed they remain. I am getting a lot of red screen "connecting to server" screen stalls and no movie or tv show. With the Alpha, it seemed that some people had this problem and others did not on the mac platform.
I am wondering if there is a deeper problem on my own end or perhaps with Netflix servers and my account in general? When I go to a web browser, there is never a problem. On Boxee, both my mac minis experience it and my lap tops.
Any thoughts from the developers on this issue? I am about ready to call Netflix tech support to figure this out as it is really a deal killer for Boxee at this point with all the integration you guys have done with them.

Turn on advanced logging:

Go to the Netflix app and let it try to run.
Post a copy of your boxee.log here so we can see what's going on.
Thanks :)

I had the same problem, make sure you have silverlight installed.

If you get a DRM error after that, make sure your en0 is active i.e you are not using en1.

The Silverlight update did not solve all my problems of getting Netflix to play right and I don't know how to check this "en0" setting. Can you be more specific on this?
Note to Boxee Developers:
I just set up a new Mac Mini to run Boxee on a friends Comcast internet service and set up a brand new Netflix account in the process. As I was doing the set up, I was getting the exact same error of the red screen "connecting to server" stall. But then realized I had not installed Silverlight yet. After the install, Netflix worked as far as I could tell. I will be doing more testing next week on my friends system. But, the point of this, it would be good to have Boxee doing some sort of background check for the latest version of Silverlight and sending up a warning to install.
Additionally, I did update my Silverlight on my existing Mac Mini's and noticed that I am getting a better percentage of movies to play, but still there is a lot of movies and shows that I can not get to play. I am wondering if Netflix has some movies encoded in older Silverlight which allows them to work ok, but newer stuff on Netflix requires the latest plug in? Not sure... just speculating here...
Anyway, more info on the "in0" and how to check for that please.
Thanks

I just sent a support ticket request and attached my logs.
I have tried everything here, re-install of Boxee, re-install of Silverlight, re-paired the account on the Boxee.tv site under my log in.... still no success.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy.
after the silverlight install do you now get a DRM error? If you do go to spotlight, then type terminal then in the terminal type "ifconfig" then enter.
Check to see if you have a en0 device with an IP address, what is your apple computer? mac pro? mb pro? I had a problem where I was using en1 and was getting a DRM error, I just disabled my other NIC so I only had en0. But you might have to change something a little more if you only have one NIC.
Netflix works most of the time for me, sometimes have to go out and play again. I am using 10.6.2 on a hackintosh, via a vpn from HK to the US.
Also did you pair your account with boxee?

We have a thread on this going in the Mac forum as well.

It seems this is the Mac error code from the logs that is causing the problem. Any ideas from anyone on what can be done?

Unsuccessful pairing Netflix w/ mac beta .10063

Worth a shot....

Gave that solution a shot to no avail.
It's weird. Still have netflix tv shows in my queue. Every time i play one it says failed. Every time i launch the netflix app it says please pair your netflix account with boxee. I've deleted my account info & re-entered it multiple times along with deleting and reinstalling boxee.
Calling it a night.
Thanks for the help :)
UPDATE:
I had to use app zapper to completely get rid of boxee. Reinstalled the beta and everything is kosher!

I've been getting a TON of "your connection has slowed" errors, which I got on the Alpha, but more so on the Beta. Of course, This isn't happening during browser playback or through other high-bandwidth streaming, such as Hulu.
Movies will play consistently, but I'll get "connection slowed" errors within 5-15 minutes.
