Hey Everyone!
Just doing this so that us as the Boxee community can get closer!

My first question, where did you find out about Boxee?

Secondly, what was your first reaction to using Boxee?

Thirdly, is this your first open-source project you have used?

Lastly, would you suggest Boxee to a friend and why?

I'm just posting these questions so that Boxee and all the users will become closer together as a community.

Oh...finally, just adding this rule...no moderators or admin should answer these questions :D...only for normal users (nevermind ;) )

Thanks!

I want to say it was a Lifehacker article. Either that or engadget.

I thought it has a lot of potential and was great to organize my media in a more user friendly way.

I do run Windows, but most of what I use is open source.

I have a bad habit of installing "things" on peoples computers without them realizing it.

I DO WHAT I WANT! :D

1. I don't recall. Huh.

2. Loved it. Bought a HTPC for my bedroom as a result.

3. No. I've even contributed.

4. Yes and No. I'm struggling with an age old TV paradigm: there's nothing ever on Boxee TV.

Do any of you experience that phenomenon? I *HATE* broadcast TV, but I always find something to watch by channel surfing. With Boxee I have to choose what to watch. I follow absolutely no shows, but there are some I would follow if I could start at the beginning (Fringe, Dexter, etc.) Since I can't I won't.

I'm really struggling with that.

Please help :)

My first question, where did you find out about Boxee?
Long, long ago there was a post on the XBMC forums about Boxee. At that time no-one knew what boxee was (except developers ofcourse). Some people thought it was a hardware device to run XBMC on or perhaps some kickass-software. Not long after that it became clear it was an social software xbmc-fork. I was always looking for new media center software. (I have tried mediaportal, mythtv, meedio, meedios, gbpvr, plex, xbmc, elisa, frontrow, myhtpc, etc).

Secondly, what was your first reaction to using Boxee?
First version (alpha) didn't really make a good impression on me. Mostly because of the UI and the bugs (what else do you expect from an alpha?).
When the next version of Boxee was announced I saw a screenshot of the new UI and my eyes where on Boxee again. After using a beta version (from piratebay since I didn't got an invite) I got hooked on Boxee. Since then I have been running it. I loved the UI and the way everything was presented

Thirdly, is this your first open-source project you have used?
No, I always liked Linux. I have tried more then 20 distrubutions. So opensource was pretty common for me. I have also used XBMC back in the Xbox days. (I think my interest for Mediacenters really got a boost back then because of XBMC)

Lastly, would you suggest Boxee to a friend and why?
Depends where that friend lives and how much computer knowledge he/she has. For non-US people Boxee isn't so great right now. (I have been trying to improve it with my apps). And getting Boxee running isn't a easy task for most people I know. I hope this gets improved when the Boxee Box arrives.
