I have one of these remotes - Univerisal R7

I am going to build or buy an HTPC like the Asus Atom ION 330. What do I need to so that my URC works with Boxee? I must need a IR receiver for the HTPC, correct? Can anybody recommend one?

guys, I could really use your help on this. I need to get my htpc setup (windows XP) for thanksgiving.

Is there such a device that would let me use a universal remote to control boxee with my zotac atom ion 330? I have searched these forums and the web and can't find any info either way.

If somebody could point me in the right direction or confirm that they do or do not exist I would appreciate it.

thanks.

P.S.

I did find these two links. Do I have to use something like this?

I would personally go the GNU/Linux route w/Boxee
Which means you'd use the more mature LIRC than WinLIRC.

Other may disagree for a simple receiver only....

The only big thing you lose out on is blueray but who cares. (that's a whole other debate unto itself)
If it really matters to you you can set-up dual boot...

There's a crap load hw choices, most of these you may well be able to get working,
but where mentioned they don't actively support LIRC.

Of course I could be entirely wring RE some of them now so do your own homework.

irtrans (the best overall imo, but pricey)
redrat (pretty useless support)
bitwise (okay support)
iguanaworks (good value)
commandIR (there's support, but the team imo are tossers)
USBuirt (ordinary support)
GlobalCache (these guys don't seem to have much of a clue about the software side)

To name a few....
Please note these are all transceivers, if you want a receiver only try a few key google search terms.
Or look here (http://www.lirc.org/html/table.html) or ask the LIRC mail list.

You're on your own from this point, I'm unsubscribing, good luck!

I'm not sure just how useful this would be unless you keep losing your remote and don't have the boxe iPhone app but I saw an article on the Lifehacker website that points you to a Mac OSX widget that will control boxee. I've only tried it on my Apple TV but it seems to work pretty well.

.... more toys. Gotta love it!

thanks. I saw that also. I'm running XP however. I was just looking or a device that would let me control boxee with a typical universal remote. I assumed that this was a no brainer but it really does not look like there is a main stream device out there. I still have to look at a couple of DIY stuff this week.
