Downmix from AC3 5.1 to 2ch stereo

I have my mac mini hooked up to my 1080p screen via a DVI->HDMI adapter and RCA cables for audio.

I'm trying to play some movies that have AC3 5.1 audio encoded within. However, the audio is very faint and seems to be playing out of channels that don't exist in my setup.

How can I downmix the AC3 5.1 output to 2 ch analog stereo output? I already have boxee set to output via analog, but am not sure what else I can do. :confused:

Also having the same issue with this, is there no wat to get this to work without a receiver?

Settings > System > Audio Hardware > Downmix multichannel to audio to stereo
