Finally thought I had my media setup complete but am experiencing an unusable stream lag that I can't resolve. Here's my setup;

- Boxee runs on a macbook, 10.5.8 (2.2Ghz core duo, 2GB RAM)
- Wireless card type, Airport Extreme
- Wireless firmware, Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.91.21)
- Wireless protocol is 802.11n using a Netgear WNR router
- Droboshare is connected to the router (on a 100MB port)

When I access the content using finder, I can play any file with no problem, there is no lag, it streams perfect.

When I add the content folders through Boxee, I can browse them fine but when I choose a file to play, it takes a good 30 seconds to load and then it won't stream fast enough to play fluidly. If I pause the file for 4 mins or so it will then play OK for 15 mins and then I have to pause it again.

Can anyone propose anything I can check? Is there another way I can mount the shares to make Boxee access them more efficiently?

Any advice would be appreciated, this is very frustrating!

first thing to look at is your network throughput...

unless there's something strange in how boxee mounts network drives, there really shouldn't be a drastic difference in how it plays in quicktime vs boxee.
is this HD content, or sd? obviously, the hd content would take a LOT more bandwidth which would definitely have the lag.

is your router in dedicated N mode, not combined mode?
you also need to confirm you're getting the strongest signal possible (5hz if possible)

Thanks for the reply. I changed boxee to access the Drobo through smb and it's a million times faster. The annoying thing is when you select a file to play it still takes about 45 seconds to start/buffer

- The router is dual band but the macbook I use connects to the wireless N SSID (5hz)
- It's only SD content I'm using
