I tried to get XBMC to get it to work. Wow, what a pain in the ass to use XBMC. Spent an hour or so trying to get XBMC to do what Boxee does so easily. XBMC must be powerful, but it's confusing to get working.
Boxee makes it so much easier than XBMC to just get going with your HTPC. For example Boxee has the MCE remote already mapped so the back direction works, in XBMC I kept having to switch to my keyboard to hit the ESC key to go back. Boxee also does the media scrapping so much easier. Point Boxee at the directory, and bang, starts scrapping. XBMC makes you configure all this crap, and even then it doesn't sort and categorize tv and movies for you automatically -- well as far as I could tell, I couldn't even get it to do that much!
