View Full Version : New App : Demand Five

I have created an app for Demand Five, the online catch up service for the UK TV channel Five.
The interface layout is based on the Hulu Feeds app.
Currently pause is working, but it is not possible to change volume or to skip (but I will be working on adding this later).
There are some programs that can be viewed without needing to register or login to the app, but for those rated Guidance or higher you need to register at http://demand.five.tv and login to the app with your email address and password.

This app will probably only work in the UK, but I have not set a country restriction as I believe this can still be a bit flaky in Boxee.

You can install this from the App Box if you add my repository at http://dir.gadget-channel.co.uk to Boxee.

Additional Information: Another current limitation, which I am working on, is that it doesn't identify the end of the video and so you will need to press Stop manually to stop it.

I've added your repository but cannot see your app?

That's strange, it should show up there. Are you looking in New Applications in the App Box after adding my repository?
The link below should display my repository (using Fuzzgtp's useful tool) so you can see the icon it should have in the App Box > New Applications:

I was trying this out too, and it doesn't seem to be adding for me either. I noticed in the XML at http://dir.gadget-channel.co.uk/ that the repository is http://192.168.0.8/repository - should this be some kind of externally accessible address? (Forgive me, I'm not familiar with the Boxee XML at all - it just looked a bit odd).

That was embarrassing, thanks for noticing - you were right, I messed up when I published my repository to the server and didn't update the repository addresses from the internal IP address.
I've updated it now, and it should work.

Hi!

Perhaps you can help me! Demand Five App was showing up for me BEFORE I added your repository (I had 5 repo's added at that time: Boxee Official, Jake Marsh, Jendabom, Boxee Repo and Simon Vuille). The App would not install. Fine I thought, I'll just add your Repo and then maybe a second copy of the App will appear in the New Apps section and I'll install that one instead. However, this did not happen! I still only had one copy of Demand Five in my New Apps list and it still would not install...

My question is: Which of the Five Repos listed above also carries your App? Perhaps if I could remove that Repo, then add your repo to make sure your App is showing up - and that I can install it directly from you - then I would be a step further down the road....

Thanks in advance,

Jim.

If Boxee Repo is the one located at dir.fuzzthed.com you may need to remove it temporarily to allow you to install it from my repository. That repository is one which consolodates multiple repositories, but it currently seems to have a cached version of my repository currently which still has the incorrect details. This is preventing Boxee from displaying the version from my repository.

Anyone comment on whether it works outside the UK?

Thanks Steven - worked like a charm! Have you any plans for an ITV and 4OD App (assuming they're even possible)? That would totally complete Boxee for the UK and make a lot of people happy!

I think somebody's already working on a 4OD app. I've started working on an ITV one, and it doesn't look like it will too difficult.

Last night, just before having to leave home for 2 weeks on business, I loaded this onto my AppleTV and gave it a go. It works!

I watched a few minutes of 'The Gadget Show' to try it. Video played fine.

I noticed when it listed all the episodes of The Gadget Show' it had, the numbering seemed strange, it showed 'episode X, Season X' and X was always the same value.

So it basically functions .. Yay. :) But now the bugs ... Oh! :(

Thanks for this plugin!

*SEE EDIT* It doesn't appear to work for me with the 'Guidance'-rated tv shows though. I have just created my demand five account and all these shows work fine on the website but unfortunately not through boxee. I have re-entered my login details and restarted boxee but neither fixed this.

When I log in via boxee I see "Welcome to Demand Five" followed by the logout button in the top-right corner of the screen, which I assume means the login was successful. When I attempt to play any guidance episode however (FlashForward for example) the screen just goes black although the timer does run. I have left it running for a few minutes just in case it takes a bit longer than the regular shows to show.

I'm using boxee 0.9.14.6987 for Windows 7

[EDIT]Okay, I was wrong. It seems to work for me only on the first show I watch on opening the application (including Guidance shows). If I stop one and try to open another within the application then it doesn't work, but if I start playing something else in another application then I can go back and watch another five show.

Pause works, great app.

Slightly disappointing video quality (not the fault of the app)

Oh, crashes Boxee on Linux

I'd suggest sending in a bug report over on the Boxee JIRA web site (http://jira.boxee.tv) so the developers can have a look at it.

Since I'm in the US, can't test that one !
