I have been running Plex for a while (*Ducks for Cover*), only because of the ability to link the system volume to the remote as a universal solution over the individual volume settings for the feeds.
It was my understanding that Boxee and Plex are based off of the XMBC platform with of course the necessary modifications made to each one to separate them from XMBC. It was also my understanding that linking the system volume would not be possible in Boxee.
I really prefer Boxee (especially with the set top box idea coming later on down the road), and it's app box plugins etc. They are better than what Plex offers. The only thing holding me back right now from using Boxee 100% again is the system volume issue. While this may seem to be a small issue, it is rather a large one for me as my iMac sits about 10-15 feet from my TV and sitting area and is feeding through an odd setup for sound which is about the same distance away.
Can the developers confirm if there are plans to integrate System Volume in a similar way to Plex in the somewhat near future?
