Sorry if this is a duplicate report, but I couldn't find it elsewhere.
The ATV stores it's local synced music in files called something like:
/mnt/Media/Media Files/F99/AQVE.mp3
/mnt/Media/Media Files/F99/AWWA.mp3
/mnt/Media/Media Files/F99/AYYH.mp3
...
These files are random songs from random albumns, and as far as I can see the directories imply no logical association of any kind.
I've had several attempts at adding /mnt/Media/Media Files as a source, with various source and library deletions along the way. So far I've always ended up with quite the mess. I've tried both automatic and manual discovery, and even just playing the music from the source option, and think I worked out what is going wrong.
When boxee scrapes these files it appears to pick up the metadata from the first file in the directory and locates the album details. It then assumes that the whole directory is songs from the same album, and creates a whole heap of mess. What it needs to do is inspect each file to determine the correct details to store in the library, as the file name and directories imply no useful details.
