Is there a way to default Boxee to use the 480p stream from hulu, what they call "High Res" when viewing hulu from Boxee? hulu has a preference that allows me to set the default to use the 480p stream, but since there is no way to log into hulu I can't get the 480p feed to default.
Thanks a bunch.

my understanding is that boxee defaults to the 480p stream on everything other then the atv... the atv does not have the horsepower to render the 480p stream without choking.

Hmm, I am running on a Core 2 Duo Mac Mini, and the quality does not seem to be the 480p. Is there a way to confirm?

yep... wait for one of that boxee-developers to answer. :)
they tend not to talk out of their ass, like me. ;)
the only think i'm basing it on is that they had to lower the quality, after the hulu version came out on the atv... as hulu only offers 480 and 320, i would suspect that is what they 'lowered' it to...
as for the quality, boxee does not use the same 'fullscreen' mode as hulu, rather a scaled version of the 'pop-out' mode.

agentlame is right.
the default is 480p. this is what you are getting on your mac-mini.
note that not all the hulu content has 480p streams. whenever it is available - boxee will use it.

Vulkan,
Is there any way to confirm this? From the sound and the image quality it looks like Boxee is picking up the 360p stream on my MacMini.

on the latest version - it will pick whatever your user is configured to get.
if you do no login - you will get the site's default which is the lower res SD streams (same as watching from hulu.com).
note - it may require boxee restart (once. after logging in).
-vulkan.
EDIT: in order to turn 480p by default - go to hulu.com, login, click "profile" and check "yes" under "video settings" (Automatically default video playback to the 1 Mbp, 480p stream)

I don't see that setting under my profile on hulu.com?

Nevermind, found it. It's under privacy and settings. Thanks Vulcan!!!

I might be crazy, but it seems like after selecting the 480 stream as my default Hulu playback, on the ATV the picture and sound quality is better though. However, it seems to be really be dropping the frame rate in order to compensate. Not sure if there is a way to improve this, as I know the ATV is limited by its hardware.
Hopefully somebody can figure out how to use the ATV like the itunes movies in HD work in order to churn out more power for boxee and hulu.

480p has been a consistent issue on the atv... so much so, that the team actually removed 480p streams from hulu playback, in the previous build.

Hi Folks,
This is my first post and I did a search on my query before posting, so hopefully the answer isn't in another thread. If it is my apologies....
Anyways, on to the question....
I am planning on using boxee on my AppleTV unit. If I add the "My Queue" feed to boxee, how do I get boxee to play the 480p high res video?
It seems like the answer to this question was back when Hulu support was more integrated into boxee before Hulu started filtering things.
Thanks everybody in advance for your help!

Assuming you are on the alpha version, there is a login in the top-right corner of the Hulu App. If you are signed in, then no matter if you play video through the Hulu app, or select it from your queue, it will use your default Hulu profile quality settings for all video.
To set your video quality, you have to do it through your profile settings on Hulu's website.
If your on the Beta version (there currently is no app) and so there is no way to log in. Which means it will play with lower quality and won't play mature videos. There is a bug report on this and it should get fixed.

does this apply to the beta as well? I know the hulu app was taken off the beta, so is there anyway to login to hulu and keep it that way? I seem to also be defaulting to the low quality in the beta, and i think its because im not logged in.

There is no way to log in to Hulu with the current beta build that is out and because of that, you will get the lower quality Hulu vidoes. But again, this is on the list to be fixed.

anyway to have boxee use the cookies and login's saved by firefox? obviously im sure it will be fixed in the future, but if anyone can give us a temp workaround thatd be great :)
EDIT: Can i log in using the boxee browser? Will that do it?
EDIT2: Cannot login using the boxee browser, clicking ok on login doesnt click start the JS to show you the login box.

Yeah, you can use symlinks to your advantage, or copy around Firefox's profile data.
Here's some rough instructions to link Boxee's browser settings with your standard Firefox install on OS X (Windows users can probably do something similar with hard links):
Note that this will totally freak out if you have multiple Boxee profiles or firefox profiles (it'll chose the first one of each, alphabetically-ish)
Install Firefox :)
Launch Firefox
Go to hulu, and log in. Make sure your account is set to default to 480p under settings.
Close Firefox so it saves its settings/cookies/etc to disk.
Open up Terminal.
type in the following lines:
FF_PROFILE_PATH=~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles
BX_PROFILE_PATH=~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData
FF_PROFILE=`ls "$FF_PROFILE_PATH" | head -n1"
BX_PROFILE=`ls "$BX_PROFILE_PATH" | head -n1"
mv "$BX_PROFILE_PATH/$BX_PROFILE/browser" "$BX_PROFILE_PATH/$BX_PROFILE/browser.old"
ln -s "$FF_PROFILE_PATH/$FF_PROFILE" "$BX_PROFILE_PATH/$BX_PROFILE/browser"
Next time you launch the Boxee browser, it should have all the cookies you've set in Firefox, and you'll be logged in
We're just linking ~/Library/Application\ Support/BOXEE/UserData/<boxee user>/browser to ~/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles/<firefox profile>/
