Hi. I'm trying to figure out how to use my Harmony 550 remote together with Boxee on my MacBook Pro. I know I can have it emulate the Apple remote with 6 button functionality. But I was intrigued by the settings under System->Apple Remote->Mode, and hoped that there is a more robust implementation available.

I couldn't find any documentation anywhere to explain the options labeled "Universal Remote" and "Multi Remote (Harmony)". Do they currently do anything?

I tried going through the Harmony software and found an option to set my device as Boxee, but the device didn't have any keys programmed.

Incidentally, I did find one thread, posted to the faqs, that describes how to use Remote Buddy together with a Harmony to map multiple Apple Remotes. But it seems overly complex and confusing. I'm hoping that there is a better implementation available, esp now that the menu seems to provide additional options.

Maybe this Q & A is more like what you're looking for:

Thank you, but basically, I'm asking whether it is possible to use a remote like the Harmony without any additional software such as Remote Buddy. Are you implying, then, that this is not possible?

Currently boxee does not suppoprt Full functionality of any Harmony remote... all you get is the functionality of the Apple remote. XBMC and Plex do have Harmony support, in teh sense it acts as an actual remote control (Play is play, Stop is stop, etc) so boxee probably isn't too far along in implementing some sort of support, along with a keymap.xml (just a guess from a optimist)
