View Full Version : Only fonts when running on Debian Sid 32bit chroot

Hi,

I've been able to compile and install boxee with little trouble. However, when I run it, I can only see the fonts. E.g. I see the date, "Add new", and when i enable loglevel 0 I see the debug text line (memory, fps, cpu states etc). When i press return i can even get to the login screen. but any text i input I can't read as it's all black on black, except for the User:, Password:, Remember password etc text, that gets rendered correctly in white.

DRI works (direct rendering: yes), glxgears works too. all within the chroot. I'm running ion3 so no fancy compiz effects whatsoever.

I'm a bit puzzled as I've no idea where to look for a solution; I suspect that there's definitely something wrong with rendering but it's not apparent from the log.

Debug log here: http://pastebin.com/m49039115

To illustrate this, here's a screenshot of what I get when i press return (e.g. login screen):

This wont help you, but I have the exact same thing happening on my fedora 6 box. Compiled boxee for the first time today. I was able to login and view videos, but had to do it with the black on black font you mentioned.

one thing you could do is check your dependencies against:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/

use hardy-updates--and even hardy-backports--where available, as boxee runs fine on hardy fully updated, and with all backports.

i know it's a generic recommendation, but it's a start.

post up your findings, and maybe team boxee can offer some recommendations, or even future support. :)

well, I've managed to get it to compile correctly.

I additionally installed libftgl2-dev, but I'm not sure if that really helped.

I used:

./configure --prefix=/opt/boxee --datadir=/opt/boxee --datarootdir=/opt/boxee

and then i went into the debian/ dir and ran:
fakeroot ./make_debian.sh

this built the package correctly and I can now start it and actually see the UI. All this on debian sid 32bit in a chroot.

I'll have a look at how it works now, will keep you posted if I run into additional issues. It might very well be this easy to build it on lenny too, but I don't have a lenny chroot so can't test.

Thanks for the pointer to this directory. I did this on my Fedora machine (minus the deb specific stuff) and now have things working
