View Full Version : Netflix Misbehaving on Boxee Mac - Limited Selection, Titles Repeating in Selection

I have been having trouble with Netflix on Boxee for Mac. I have tried removing the Netflix app and reinstalling and have updated Boxee, to no avail. These are the symptoms I am experiencing:

the selections are extremely limited; it seems to be showing mostly "B" movies and obscure titles, not even nearly the amount available on the web browser version
the selections repeat over and over at the bottom of the selections list (where the movie poster icons live)
a handful of titles listed will not play and say "not available at this time" or "not currently available"
the new releases are always the same and they are all kids titles like disney stuff "a la Hannah Montana"

The titles that DO play actually work just fine... Apple remote and all. But the selection is terrible and it's hit and miss as to whether it will acutally play.

Same problem here for last few weeks or so.

Called Netflix last night - told them I see same problem on Plex and Boxee.

No problems with Safari viewing.

Netflix support initially "groaned" when I told them it was Boxee and Plex. Talked about "supported" apps. They then talked to their support staff and recommended using the RSS feeds. Tried that and they don't play thru Boxee as it appears to want me to log on again. Anyways the RSS solution is a pain as it is so limited.

I really believe this is another conspiracy by either Microsoft, content providers, TV manufacturers (as they will be adding built in Netflix) or Netflix themselves to lock out these non-browser apps that provide easy access to TV viewing of content.

Boxee - any comments?

Just wanted to add a different issue I'm seeing with Netflix. Every time I watch something through Boxee, it registers with Netflix as a unique device even though it's on the same Mac every time. So after watching six episodes of a TV show, Netflix says I've used all my devices and that if I want to watch something I need to deactivate devices. Again, I only watch Netflix on one computer! Going to my user account on the Netflix site, I can see that there are unique serial numbers assigned to the Mac for every episode viewed.

I talked with Netflix support last night and the guy didn't love that I was using Boxee. He told me to use Safari or Firefox instead. This only started happening in the last week or so. Unfortunately I'm not at home so I can't tell you my configuration, but it's a Mac mini and all apps and the OS are up to date.

Thanks for any help!

thanks for that we will look into that ..Strange the Netflix support told you to watch it on Safari or Firefox instead of Boxee should make no difference to them ..
