View Full Version : Sorting music within Boxee

Those of us who are coming from an iTunes/Front Row background have a lot of music and video which is filed automatically by iTunes. The folder structure iTunes uses to do this doesn’t make for a very friendly browsing flow within Boxee.

It would make a huge difference if Boxee could read the ID3 tags and sort music in its own way, rather than just sorting by the folder structure where it finds the files.

Something similar to iTunes/Front Row whereby you can drill down by artist/genre/playlist/whatever instead of all files just being displayed alphabetically would be a massive improvement in usability.

(I guess Boxee would need to index all files and build a library to enable this sort of browsing, but a shortcut for iTunes users could just be to use the existing iTunes library XML file.)

I second this. I think that it would be very helpful to me and other boxee users if iTunes ID3 tags were recognized by Boxee. Is it possible?

id3 (and other embedded data) tag reading is one of the most oft-requested features.

i have a good feeling it's on the list. :)

AMEN. Not only that but support for m4a files would be nice. Unless I'm doing something wrong the only music files showing up in Boxee are my mp3 files.

I've struggled so much with getting my iTunes stored music into Boxee that I've given up. last.fm gets a lot of use now :-)

im not so interested in being able to SORT as being able to SEARCH.

a large archive is very difficult to surf thru, i am always listening to mp3s that have a artist or album name that starts with 1-9 or A-D.

A search function that was responsive to each letter, or even ONLY a single letter, would be huge.

thanks guys fro the request ..search is a very popular requested feature which has been forwarded to our product team..

regarding m4a these should play if they are DRM-free...
