View Full Version : Remember Last Position

I'm looking at Boxee as a replacement for Miro. It is much more suited for using on a TV. Two things I really miss in playing with Boxee:

1. Remembering the last position in a video.
2. Being able to jump to a specific time in a video. (This becomes even more needed given #1)

Other than general stability (I'm on a Mac Mini), these are the features I would consider essential.

Thanks for all the work on this!

Was it simply removed?

I'm also was surprised that Boxee cannot store the position when video was stopped last time. Can somebody clarify that it works on Linux version, please?

TIA

Hopefully, it is only a temporary set back. Miro seems to be able to handle it in most cases.

When/if it is re-added, I hope DVD resume would be a part of this as well.

marcel posted about this, just today...

something like:

Yes let's hope to see this again soon. Also it could be expanded to include tracking which videos have been watched, and synchronizing that with your Boxee account.

I am using build 0.9.6.4578 on ATV and I welcome the re introduction of being able to leave off when I was last playing a video, music etc.

and OR

being able to scan to a specific time in said item eg 28mins 21secs timeline of a video.

Recently watching a film on 66stage the film stopped. I reloaded and took me ages to get to the same position as I was at.

I love the Boxee app, keep the updates and fixes coming guys.

I like both of Tom's ideas remembering last position, and scanning to specific places in time have my vote as a top requested feature....

I really hope that the dev team could get this feature (remember position) to work again, as it's really convenient

I'm also looking forward to this, very much! We've got kids, and kids tend to skip around a bit between stuff.

As is, we keep a little notebook of where we were in various movies and TV shows, then use the right-arrow to skip forward to that point when it's time to start watching again.

Anyone know if this feature is being worked on, at least??

It seems like such a basic feature. Who always finishes what he's watching?

I just installed boxee for windows today. I am in love. However, i would get married to it if it could resume my videos. Every time i leave her i have to start the whole relationship over and it takes forever to get back to the place we were at lol.

Yes, I hope this feature gets some love from the developers soon. I've had use for this several times over the last few days since I first installed Boxee.

Very strange that this feature hasn't been added back yet.

Yup, this and not utilizing MP3 tags to build the music library are the only reasons I went with XBMC instead.

Marcel, this will be a very important update for me once it gets added. I hope to begin using Boxee as my frontend (instead of MythTV) once this gets added.

I recall Avnar saying it would be this fall or winter when he was hoping to have the beta out. How is the timeline looking? If we're still a month or two (or more) away, that is fine, but I haven't heard an update for a while so I was wondering how things are progressing? I don't want to disseminate incorrect information if it will still be a while.

Just revisited Boxee and tried out the latest (boxee-0.9.22.13692). It STILL can't remember where I left off.

Wow.

If you'd like help with this feature (works fine for me!) let us know more about which OS you're on and which video you're viewing... I suspect it's an online one?

My bad, it is working - I see the "Resume from xx:xx" dialog box now.

When I do this it does not seem to resume:

Play a movie.
Press escape to go back to the movies page.
Play the same movie.

It starts from the beginning without giving the option to resume.

Are you pressing "stop" before pressing "escape"?

Is this for an online movie or a local movie file?

I didn't press stop, only escape which brings me back to the movies page. And I immediately click on the movie again.

It is a local movie file.

Hit stop first then and see if that works.

(also, hitting "escape" doesn't stop the movie, but it should still bring up the "resume" dialog).

Also, which version number exactly (all the digits of the version number) are you running?

No I didn't press STOP. I played a video, press escape, then press enter again. I get the "Local File" confirmation, press enter, and the video started from the beginning without the resume dialog.

Version 0.9.22.13692.

Ok, I am having the exact same problem. I downloaded the most recent version of Boxee, and since then it cannot remember positions at all. Speaking strictly about local files here, and for the most part, it remembered positions prior to the update. Wasn't perfect, but better than nothing. Since the update, I also notice that they always say "resume from -00:01" which starts at the beginning obviously.

Build Date 8/22/10

Any ideas on a fix?

Anybody experiencing this issue? Very annoying. Many times I am noticing it remembers a certain point in a movie for ever! Like the first time I watch a movie, I stop on 23 minutes let's say. I come back to it, it picks up at 23 minutes, watch til 55 minutes. When I come back, it's still picking up at 23 minutes. It's like the position is written to some file, and then it can't be overwritten. Are these positions stored somewhere, and maybe I need to clean up that file/folder?
