I really haven't done much torrent stuff, and I'm finding the interface for interacting with boxee's built in torrent confusing. Could anyone throw up a step by step on a random torrent (or point me to one)?

Thanks!

hi

there is an rss feed of royalty-free torrents shipped with boxee (see "internet videos->public downlodas" for example)

boxee is also constantly "watching" a folder called torrent under your "Downloads" folder (Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/Torrents/) - whenever a torrent file is added to that folder boxee will automatically start to download it. you can "drop" files there and boxee will get them.

interesting... is it possible to share that folder on the LAN with boxee?

why not...

Is there a way to do it built into boxee?

If you asking if there is a way to download torrents while using the boxxe UI the answer is no, and then yes.

You can add RSS torrent feeds to your boxee account, which will allow you to see an updated list of torrents, from that you can choose to download specific torrents, which will be automagically placed in the "download" folder. Rtorrent, which starts up with boxee, will scan that folder (at an interval) and will then start downloading the file, it will then show in boxee in the downloads area as downloading. rtorrent will update boxee with the status of the file, and so on.

You however cannot browse sites that have torrent files, or a file directory, and download from the, while in boxee.

If you are asking for a way to share a folder over LAN via boxee, that is more of an OS issue. Boxee "downloads/torrents" are just a front end, to what rtorrent is doing in the back. If you want to share the download folder, you would need to allow that through the OS.
On linux the folder is, ~/.boxee/torrent i believe
when the download is done its moved to: ~/.boxee/downloads

I assume if I drop one in for my apple tv, it will store it on the apple tv (and not somwhere else on the network)? Is that customizable?

Hello,

I posted this email on another thread but didn't get an answer. Maybe I can have an answer on this thread.

I'm using the latest Alpha of Boxee on my AppleTV. I am sending .torrent files to the Torrent directory on Boxee. When I go to the downloads section at the main menu, I'm presented with a few options to change, but all the options are blank. I cannot access the options. I click on them, but nothing happens. Also, the download screen has an Error and the download and upload are both at 0.

What am i doing wrong?

Please let me know if you need more information that i can send to you.

Thank you.

Yes, there are several videos to download. I choose a couple of them and indeed, the .torrent file was downloaded to the Boxee Torrent directory, where they are now along the other .torrent files I had before.

But when I go to the Downloads menu the "Error! Connecting to Download Server" message appears. And no file is visible on the download screen.

All of the options are blank on the configuration screen. The options titles are there, but the actual options to change are the ones that are blank.

So it seems that i don't have problems connecting to the internet, but i have problems connecting to the torrent program.

Hope you can help me

I am also still having this problem - do I need to restart the rTorrent server on the AppleTV or something??

I restart the AppleTV a couple of times per day. Every time the screen for downloads is blank.

Do you know how I can make a clear install of boxee? Maybe with a clean install the problems will be solved. Or maybe changing permissions. The thing is that it seems I'm not alone having this problems.

Thank you for your help.

BTW, I'm outside of the USA, if that piece of information is valuable.

I fixed this problem on my apple tv. you need to go into boxee main settings and select system/boxee. you will find the option to start rtorrent at launch. select this option, exit boxee and restart boxee. this should now fix the issue of connecting to the torrent, downloading them and having access to the torrent settings.

Thank you, but that didn't work for me.

I'm trying to install rtorrent outside Boxee, but I really just want to use rtorrent inside Boxee. I don't have an idea of why it is not working for me.

Thank you.
