Two of my favorites from Navi-X are VeeHD and StageVU. It would be great to have the two of them as Boxee apps.

I think boxee team should be able to create apps or sport links that are available in each country, the same way they did tv shows ...
in Canada;
CBC does live streaming
atp-tennis tournaments are also broadcasted on sportsnet
get on the sport material, Boxee team!

Hi,
anyone can Help.
just bought a Boxee Box. Would love to have Tou.Tv as an app.
is a free stream on CBC in french.
Jus not too many french content in there and Tou.Tv is probably the best site for that. Or maybe it's just because I'm new to boxee and don't know how to get it from the web with the boxee browser
thanks

I would say that the below are mandatory and am absolutely shocked that they don't exist already.
Emulator
Sabnzb
Sickebeard
Couchpotato
Torrent Client

Please Understand that boxee does not allow 3th party software on the box thus it is no use to actually make an app for the above programs. Although there is an app for sabnbzd it is only a client version

What about boxee on windows/mac/linux?

September 11th, 2011, 08:58 AM
Also, you could simply create a app to manage all of the above (except for the emulator i guess). You wouldn't need to rebuild the client itself...just a way to manage. Similar to the way sabnzb works.
If you take a look around the nets, you'll see that the config people are using or trying to setup is the following.
HTPC -xbmx, wmc, boxee etc
Clients - sabnzb, couchpotato, sickbeard, torrent (any torrent client)
Apps - tvrename, yammm (soon yammm for both), and missing a good music sorting, renaming, tagging app
Gaming - Mednafen (emulator), ps3 remote (still missing a good driver/config for both controlling boxee and games)
Streaming media - slacker, pandora, netflix, hulu
I would say the leader of the pack will find a way to put that all in a package that is simply to use and install. I hope this will be boxee

For the platform version it would be doable indeed, still this version is used by a considerable small amount of the total boxee community now the boxee box is there. A lot of devs are targeting on the box as that is the progressing firmware (platform hasn't got an update since last year). Devs are really struggling to give all platforms support as both versions respond differently on the some code.
So as long as there is no update on the platform it is almost dead and won't get that much attention from devs.

I had no idea they gave up on the platform branches....thats unfortunate. i really like the look and feel. I guess i'll have to consider another solution, nothing worse then using a product that is eol.
Anyway thanks for the insight

Looks like its not dead at all, check out the quote below. Anyway i'm surpised with the people that are asking about my config and are now running or working on running Boxee on win7. Those apps may still work worth a devtime:)

We are going to release an update for the downloadable version this fall, and hope to keep it more up to speed with the CE version going forward. We also hope to make the open source version of the downloadable version easier to use for people who want to build out their own versions of Boxee

Yeah there is but Turner is soooo backed up in processor requests, it's not even funny. I would do anything to find some folks interested in helping with some perl and php coding cause we could sure use more people working on the list we have. Currently we have over 115 sites currently being evaluated for processors and Turner's time is so little now a days cause he's so busy at work, processor development seems to have come to a halt.
If anyone who codes php or perl or json web scripts would like to contribute to easily adding whole domains for scraping media from into a playlist, WE NEED YOU!! Otherwise, we wait for Turner to get to it and no... I don't know what number in the list ESPN is... sorry bro's.

Suggest to add some Chinese content, none of Chinese app/show in Boxee now:
http://www.kylintv.com (www.kylintv.com)
KyLinTV is the world's first and largest Chinese IPTV operator, delivering the best of the Chinese TV entertainment experience to overseas Chinese worldwide, including US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Singapore, Japan and Australia/New Zealand.

What would be great is live tv streaming content. I know its possible to get some of these channels over the internet so why not through Boxee. Someone must have a way or a app. And I would love MTV, and by saying that I mean a live stream.
Heres some channels in AUS that I would love to see on Boxee - http://www.foxtel.com.au/discover/channels/default.htm
Plus of course there are overseas channels, why dont we use this power of the internet with the Boxee to its maximum capability. I dont know why someone hasnt done so already.
Im not wanting netflix, or hulu.... I want live channels! I have navi-x without a fee for that :)

A LoveFilm.com app would be great. It's on the PS3 so it shouldn't be such a big deal... also you have NetFlix for US users. We don't get NetFlix in the UK, we do get LoveFilm.com though which allows you to stream movies for free if you're a member...

I think it would be pretty cool to have a app for http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/. Then there could be tons of anime on Boxee. Many will appreciate it I would think! :)
Also add http://www.anime44.com/ to the list.

Now that YouTube has a new, more channel-oriented design, perhaps it's time for a new YouTube app?
(I say this as someone who's not a big fan of the current YouTube app.) :)

There needs to be a better design for this app which, as it currently stands, it su**s a*s.
In Mac OS Lion 7.2, boxee app for youtube does not offer access to the playlists.
In B.Box, the flaws are these:
1. If you want to sign in:
a. It does not allow the user to see what characters he/she inputs in the password field. Therefore, one could be on high caps, inputing the wrong password, as one cannot enable the screen to reveal what characters one is typing.
b. It does not allow a user to enter any characters in Captcha boxes when required by YouTube (this is often required after trying to sign in with the wrong password a few times without success).
2. If a user goes back to the YouTube home section, it does not allow to exit back to B.Box's Apps section. That really su**s because one has to restart the box to get back to another section.
Really, I thought this app had improved for a while, but the latest upgrade really makes watching YouTube unnecessarily a bad experience.
I do hope developers dare to provide a new, functional, intuitive and easy to use YouTube app.

I think that a plugin of the TV-record/viewing system “For The Record” http://www.4therecord.eu/ would be great, with FTR, Boxee will be the best Home Theater System ever. I do not have the skill to build this myself, if I had it would be built for a loooong time ago…

Please develope App for Cinemanow for all us Canadian folks that love your product. Bricks and mortar video rental stores are disappearing fast yet very few online sites are available to us in Canada that support new movie release rental/purchase, unlike the US. It would be awesome to get Cinemanow that is available on other systems in Canada on the Boxee as it does support new movie release rental/purchase, unlike Netflix up here that is mostly older movie titles.
Thanks.

I am looking for a app that can show my movie collectorz collection on boxee. Movie collectorz is a application for you to register your movie collection. It support both iphone, android, Windows media center, html and xml export today but sadly not boxee. More information at www.collectorz.com/movie

I noticed that Cooking on Boxee is showing a blank screen, and have been for months. I read it was displaying shows from the Food Network or different cooking shows.
I could did not find a ticket, regarding Cooking on Boxee app. The dev jendabom is no longer on this forum.
I hope this app gets fixed, since it comes pre-installed on BB.

I would love to see an application for the Airfoil program available for OS which allows you to stream the audio from any application including iTunes (which is the main reason one would want this)
The program on my computer picks up my boxee box and attempts to stream audio from my computer to the box and the box appears to respond and the screen goes black and the word "streaming" appears in white letters near the top this would be a great function just like the apple airport or apple tv can do

boxee needs to have an application to record live TV and store it on an external device plugged in via usb
this would make the boxee extremely attractive for another reason it would make it a free alternative to the TiVO

How about giving 1 to 5 stars to the applications?
This way, we will be able to rate the applications ourselves, and sort them by the viewer's ratings.

In an effort to help out some people that want some ideas on "the next best app" to develop, I've made this thread. If you have an idea for an app, post it here and I'll add it to the list.
please add this Skype app request, that is already 3rd place for votes on Jira: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-8626

I'd love to see a Squeezebox player app for Boxee that can connect to a Squeezebox server and play radio streams and music. Any news on this?
Is there any chance of this happening, it doesn't feel that it would be too hard to do, there are versions for lots of other platforms ?

Living in Canada, access to on-line movie services is really, really bad. I even managed to get Vudu working, but they wouldn't accept payment from any source outside the US...sigh...
Currently, the only sources of on-line movie/TV services that I can access and pay for are Netflix (the content in Canada is ridiculously bad), CinemaNow (only recently available), and YouTube-Movies (although, I haven't tried it yet). I had to buy a Samsung DVD player to get CinemaNow even though my Sharp TV has the internet app for it...the app won't function and I get the error "Service only availalbe in the US"...sigh...
I'd recommend adding these two apps to Boxee:
CinemaNow, and
YouTube-Movies (as a separate app from the YouTube app)
This would certainly help us Canadian users!!

" I even managed to get Vudu working, but they wouldn't accept payment from any source outside the US...sigh... "
there's a work-around for that too, just do a search for a forum that talks about "Vudu For Free" and you'll find that website ...
btw; just signing up gives you $5.99 credit for a month w/ out any commitments.

I did get the 5.99 credit and I used it. I called to give payment details for more shows...all they would do is re-imburse me the 5.99 credit for being Canadian...woohoo!!

I wish it was so simple...
I used a DNS service to get access to Vudu the first time. However, i live in a rural area that has no wired internet except for dial up. The only "high speed" internet I can get is Wimax (like wide area WiFi) and Mobile. My ISP just informed me Wimax is being discontinued...leaving my only choice as mobile (3G network). Most DNS services (any that I can subscrbe to) do not support mobile networks...
Back to square one...or any other suggestions?

I totally agree with what marginal said..
It would be both great for us if we can rate the application ourselves..
This helps the users determine how good that apps would be and this will also served for you guys to know what apps that are needed to improved on or to remove.. :)
