I wasn't sure the best way to title this thread, but basically the use case is this:
I'm at home on my desktop/laptop and a friend IM or emails me a link to youtube, Hulu, Ted, etc video. I could click it and watch on my computer, but if it's a 5-20 min Ted video it may be better to watch from my couch. So if there was a way to send that link off to my Boxee computer so that it could play it instead that would be great. That way I wouldn't have to go to Boxee and try to browse feeds and YouTube search for a video that I already have link to. I run into this all the time.

Any thoughts?

while this isn't currently possible... you COULD create another boxee account and 'recommend' items between them.

bit of a hack, but it could solve the issue in the short-term.

+1 on the feature... (or even better, roaming profiles. :D )

Is there a shell script or something I can run on my laptop with the url to send the recommendation to Boxee? I assume these messages are just HTTP requests with POST data, so if I know the format it could just be a curl command. Just an idea.

i'm sure it's sent in-the-clear... maybe ethereal to sniff the packets?

I agree. Being able to log onto Boxee.tv, then add items to your que. Or having a psuedo-private @boxee.tv email account you could email links youtube links to. Something similar to the private email accounts used to post with blogger. Either style would be amazing.
